The Schengen space is big stretch includes 26 European states that have officially put an end to all passport and all other types of border control at their mutual borders. The area mostly functions as a single jurisdiction for international travel purposes, with a common visa policy. The area is named after the 1985 Schengen Agreement signed in Schengen, Luxembourg.
Understanding Schengen Visa
In order to enter or stay in Schengen space you need Schengen Visa. You can stay for short duration or long duration based on the type of visa stamped on your passport
More precisely Schengen visa is a short duration visa ,that permits a visa bearer to travel to any members of the Schengen Area (refer Schengen Space map above), per stays up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes. Schengen visa bearer can enter, freely travel within, and leave the Schengen zone from any of the Schengen member countries. There are no border controls within the Schengen space.
